This is my fourth year photographing the New York State Fair Barrel Racing Championship but the first time with the right camera and lens. ; All photos taken with a Nikon D700 and Nikon 70-200mm VR f/2.8 lens. Since it was night, the Coliseum arena was pretty dark so I couldn't shoot faster than 1/160s without pinning the ISO at 6400. ; During the day, I should be able to get 1/250 or 1/320 with the extra window light. Got some great expressions as they rounded the second barrel and headed to the third and last one. 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 3600, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 2200, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 2200, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length Rounding the Barrels 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 5600, EV -0.3, 70mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 3200, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 5000, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length Coming to the timing line. 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 3600, EV -0.3, 200mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 4000, EV -0.3, 240mm focal length 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 3200, EV -0.3, 160mm focal length
Nice work Scott! ; I actually like the slower shutter speed. ; The slight blur of the horse's legs really give the images a sense of speed.
Thanks, Michael! ; I was not getting as good as results I had hoped for. ; I learned a few things last night so I should do better next time.
