Anyone here shooting with a Panisonic LX Series Compact P&S? Or more specifically with the Lumix DMC-LX3? I would love to hear what you think of it or see some examples.

I am looking for a Compact or Ultra-Compact for my wife to use. (She was using a Nikon D40 but wants to go back to something that fits in her handbag.) And I also want to get something that I might want to use once in a while. I don't know much about compact cameras but this one seemed to have some good features.

    • Image Stabilization
    • Shoots in RAW or JPG
    • 24-60mm Range @ f2.0-f2.8
    • ISO 80-6400 (I can only imagine what 6400 looks like)
    • Average- Center Weighted- and Spot Metering
    • 10 Megapixels (More than enough)
    • Manual Controls Including Focus

    The full review is HERE.

I am also looking at a few others- including the Canon G10. I am also open to suggestions for something with similar features.

  2. Maybe a little too bulky but check out the Canon A630.

Funny, my wife has the same predicament, but I cannot seem to talk her into wanting the Canon G10. Bummer.

Jeff, you know how those sensor sizes are going to look.....esp. at higher ISOs.

Perhaps the new DP-2? Or the new Micro 4/3?

I looked at the Sigma DP-1 and what I could find on the DP-2. I definitely think the dslr size sensor is interesting but it seems like the rest of the camera got pretty luke-warm reviews at best. As for super high ISO on a P&S- I know it will suck but she will probably never go there anyway. This will mostly be for school pictures in class or on a field trip or something. Pretty basic stuff. And the samples I saw on DPR actually looked like almost usable up to 1600 with a little Noise Ninja.

That's also why I was suggesting the Micro 4/3 system. You know a little shop out of Memphis is carrying the first model out to market....
