Hi all, ; I'm trying to ID this snake. He decided to take an inside tour of my screened off lanai in Florida. I tried to shoo him back out, but he's taken refuge in the mulch of a planter. Trying to figure out how concerned I should be about it still being around. Thanks, Erich
I'd call a wildlife expert. ; I think you are going need help in extraditing him out of the house. ; He looks like a constrictor but I am NO expert.
No worries - you got yourself a corn snake. ; Not dangerous, not poisonous. ; Some folks keep them as pets - they're quite common in Florida, and not the worst thing that can get in your house or yard by any means! Personally, I pick 'em up and bring them out by the pond by my house where there's a wooded area. ; You're safe picking them up, though could land yourself a bite or two if you don't get them close up around the neck, with fingers braced along each end of the jaw. ; If you're squeamish about getting a bite, you can bag them, use a broom, trash-picker, or call a neighbor or pest control.
Thanks all. As for picking him up, NO WAY! Anyway, it seems to be a moot point, as he managed to disappear. I'll give him a day or so before I start putting things back in place to make sure I don't bury him alive. He certainly was an aggressive fella, much more so than the black racer that I usually have to chase out of the lanai. All those little lizards must be a tasty meal for a snake. The joys of living in Florida. Erich
I would take that on compared to the NJ issues! ; But I dont have the guts to just up and move! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
John, I gotta tell you that it was the best move of my life! ; We have been in and out of New Jersey, and Virginia, and although I liked and would go back to Virginia, the cost of living there is high as well. ; Clermont, where I am is 30 minutes from Orlando attractions, Disney, and an hour from each coast for the beaches. ; We are in Lake County which was named for the 1400+ lakes in the county. ; So the atmosphere is that of living on the coast even being an hour inland.
