Just wanted to post a few quick shots from my son's 4th grade level basketball game today. Used a 50MM f1.8 only since the gyms are pretty poorly lit; still ended up shooting at ISO 1600. I probably could have dialed that down a bit, but wanted to capture as much action as possible. He is number 4 in blue just in case you couldn't figure that out. [This attachment has been purged. Great shots Paul! I really like the pictures freeze framing all the kid's reactions, especially in the last one. And perhaps it is my imagination or your choice of photos, but your son definitely seems the most able to ignore the camera!
Thanks Deniz. He does have pretty good concentration when he is on the court, plus he knows I'm always taking pictures so its no big deal. The kids do have great reactions don't they!
He seems like a natural! I think you did great with the lighting issues. I don't have much opportunity to shoot in a gym (pictures... not basketballs... we not either as a matter of fact) but I've got to get the lighting right on nighttime football games. Tough.
