Beautiful, rugged Bar Harbor, Maine

Part of my cruise last month took me to the beautiful town of Bar Harbor, Maine, and Acadia National Park. ; The weather once again was just sublime - clear skies, sunny, mid-50s. ; Though the fall colors weren't quite as far along as one might expect in October, there were some lovely colors peaking out of the lush greens and gorgeous blue waters. ; The A580 and 18-250mm did the work here, mostly because it involved a fair amount of walking and hiking, with some climbing trails and coastal walks - I decided to travel light with just the camera and attached lens, no bag.

This is the street by the waterfront - a very lovely and wealthy little town with perfectly manicured lawns and trees and everything kept ship-shape:


The tides run big up north, so when you hit low tide, you get tidal land-bridges out to some of the nearby islands...just remember to keep an eye on when the tide's coming back in, and as the sign says, no parking your car on the land bridge unless it can double as a boat!:


In Acadia National Park, the tallest point is Cadillac Mountain. ; From up there, you get a lovely view down to the ship sitting at anchor off the town:

Down in the dense forest at the bottom of Cadillac Mountain, there are beautiful, peaceful long trails running through the forest, and it's a chance to also pick up some of the bits of fall color stealing it's way in:




When you look back up to the top of Cadillac Mountain, you realize how far up you were and how far down you are now:


Acadia's 'Thunder Hole' gives you that classic rocky Maine coastline scenery, that's so rugged and beautiful:

While taking a scenic of a rural, forested street a mile or two outside of town center, I ended up having a walk-in to my shot...a bear quickly crossing the road:


A craggy tree along the coast served as a cool, atmospheric frame for a fishing boat anchored in the harbor:

Thanks Michael. ; I'm already missing the trip and want to go again. ; It was nice to take such a different trip for a cruise - I'm so accustomed to Caribbean islands...but now that I've tasted this one, I'm dying to try something like it again.
