well I really pulled the trigger this time. bought a slightly used D3s. the sharpness is unreal. I use it with the 200-400F4 and a 1.4 and 1.7 tele. weird thing is on the D7000 the teles dont work well at all with that lens. images are soft but with the D3s they are fine. love having the faster frame rate and huge buffer and of course much lower noise

Love that last one of the egret, very cool looking shot on what looks like a very challenging day.

    Howie,

Goes to show that Pro lenses are designed for Pro cameras and visa versa. ; You know how much I am loving your photos lately.

thank Mike and Gary. well I changed my mind and gave back the D3s and am selling the 200-400 F4. Since I mostly shoot birds outside in sunlight I dont really need a full frame low light camera and I need more reach than even the 200-400 can give on a DX body and I find tele converters dont work all that great with it sooooooooooo
I am getting the Nikon beast
the 600 F4 VR lens. I have borrowed it a few times from a friend and it works great on the D7000. even hand held for birds in flight
you can't take it with you. right

Now you're talking! ; That's pretty much the same determination I've made - APS-C and a 600mm are my eventual goals.

I can only imagine what you could get down there with that combo. I look at the cost of this stuff and say to myself. why oh why did I pick this hobby and the never ending need for more reach.

Not that I want to spend your money or anything, but imagine how good that 600 would look mounted on a shiny new D800. :D You'd have cropability and high ISO.
