Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge is in between migrations. ; The large movement of Snow and Canada Geese are gone and the shore birds are just now starting to show up. ; Did find some other inhabitants which make Montezuma NWR their home. ; All these taken with a Nikon D70 and Nikon 80-400VR. I wish nikon would come out with a 15 or 16 meg body just to be able crop more as there is no way I can afford a big prime which is what I would need to match the tamron
Howie, the D70 is only 6MP. ; I have used a D700 with a 12MP FX sensor and I can crop it a lot with great print results. ; I think you would like the D90 a lot if you are looking to upgrade.
I was going to go with the d90 but was hoping nikon would do something as I figured a 2 meg jump wouldn't matter much
The D90 gives more than 2MP. ; You get better ISO capabilities for one. I know there is talk the D90 is due for a replacement. ; But it's all talk. ; There's not any viable rumors at this time.
I know it has better noise levels then the d80 and shoots faster which is a plus for sure. maybe next year they will have something with more mp as long as it's not a noise monster. if not then the d90 will be my next one
Very nice selection Scott. ; Nice that you got a tree swallow that sits still - haven't had that luck myself as they're always darting around maniacally! ; Montezuma sounds like a wildlife place in Mexico...how'd they come up with that name?
Hey, you are not far off on that Mexico reference, Justin. ; From Wikipedia: The name "Montezuma" was first used in 1806 when Dr. Peter Clark named his hilltop home "Montezuma" after the palace of the Aztec Emperor Montezuma in Mexico City. Eventually the Marsh, the Village, and the Refuge all acquired the name. The tree swallows here using the nesting box and they were feeding their young inside. ; It was windy so when they landed, they hung on gauging when it was safe enough to fly down to the nesting box hole. ; Normally, they are impossible to see them sit still for any length of time. ; I was only 8 feet from them.
We all have a close friend who had a great experience with Montezuma during a trip to Mexico. ; I don't think that it is postable though. Oh wait, wrong kind of Montezuma, nevermind.
