would love to see that. I love old Sci-fi. especially from the 50's. It is a shame Hollywood keeps making stupid remakes of the classics. I guess Forbidden Planet will be the next one they mess up

our yellow lab got skunked one year, up in vermont, walking on a long lead, at night, ; of course he waltzed right up to the black kitty, after all, all the black kitties he lives with are nice, they even come by to get their heads washed occasionally, well it wasn't a kitty.10 cans of tomato juice later we could at least put him in the car to go home

oh. I agree with that. great personalities and lots of fun, Yellow, choc and black that is. Goldens can be nasty believe it or not. 3rd most biting dog in the US is Golden Retriever. one of my son's goldens had to be put down as she got very aggressive and started biting everyone.

Get out the rockin' chair, the geezer's gonna spin a tale.

When I was a kid, Wednesday night was meeting night for my Cub Scout pack. ; At the end of the meeting, there was always a big argument over whether we were going to watch Lost in Space or Batman. ; Since Batman was also on Thursday (even though it was the conclusion of Wednesday night's episode), Lost in Space usually won out.

Why an argument? ; This was years (perhaps decades) before anybody heard of a VCR. ; Heck, color TV was still fairly recent.

Forbidden Planet trivia (which you all probably know): ; The animation of the id monster attacking the ship was done by Disney's animators. ; From the style of the animation, it's pretty obvious.

    Nice shot, Howie.

Yeah. ; I wouldn't want to get that close to a skunk even in my car. ; About two years ago a skunk was under my Aunt's car. ; That morning when she hit the remote start, the skunk was startled and sprayed. ; The car smelled for weeks.

My uncle got hit by one when we were out hiking some heavy woods - we were hacking a trail through heavy brush and vines to get a shortcut between our neighborhood and the next one over where our friends lived (this is when we were kids...my uncle's the same age as me. ; Don't ask). ; The hack of the machetes must have made it quite defensive by the time we broke through to its den area. ; He couldn't get rid of all of the scent for weeks. ; Even when you thought it was gone, we'd run around, he'd sweat, and there it was again!

I was about 15 ft away and had foot on brake. if he even looked like he was coming any closer I would have floored it

Got an up close and personal chance to shoot one of these critters at a convention last year. ; I didn't actually ask, but I assume that this one was descented.

    Notice the impressive claws.

I knew that some people kept skunks as pets, so I asked what they're like when they're humanized and domesticated. ; I believe I was told that they can be trained to use a litter box, which was a bit of a surprise.

This one was fairly mellow, just sitting there watching all the people go past. ; In all the pictures I took of it all it does is move its head, the rest of its body stays completely still. ; I figure it's probably been taken out in public like this a lot, it must be used to crowds.

Fun fact: ; the scent in skunk spray that we respond so strongly to comes from the compound methyl mercaptan, which is also what is added to natural gas to give it a detectable smell. ; Our noses are unusually sensitive to that particular compound so we can detect it in extremely small doses.
