Dateline Disneyland, April 22, 2023: During the evening showing of Fantasmic!, the fire effect of the Maleficent dragon malfunctioned and burned the entire dragon to the ground. The show is staged on Tom Sawyer Island so all guests were a safe distance away, but several attractions were evacuated due to smoke. No cast members were harmed. Disney has suspended fire effects in all theme parks worldwide until the cause of the fire has been determined and appropriate safety measures are taken. It's too soon to speculate on when fire in general and the Disneyland dragon in particular will return. There are several videos of the incident on YouTube.
