Hey I have a question for everyone. ; I have Photoshop7, and for some reason I cant get it to recgonize my raw files from my D90. ; Does anyone else have issues with getting the .NEF files recgonized? ; Am I just overlooking something simple or does it sound like a big problem to anyone out there? ; I see the .jpg files no problem.

    Thanks,
    Scott

I think it's because your version of Nikon camera is newer than the support in Photoshop 7 for Nikon NEF files. ; In other words, you may have to upgrade.

I'm sure there might be another Nikon shooter here that may know how to get around that problem

Yes, that's one of the major problems I have with Adobe - you HAVE to upgrade if you want to use newer cameras, even if the "improvements" to the product aren't worth it.

I believe however, that you can download Adobe's DNG converter (standalone) for free, and convert all of your NEFs into DNG files (and then have 2 RAW files to keep track of and store), which you should be able to process in Photoshop7. ; I think....DNG may be a CS thing.

try using the nikon software that came with your camera to open nef. I believe it is picture project. after doing work on the nef file convert it to a tiff and then open it in PS7.From my research on the web apparently PS 7 cannot read nef or raw files

i think you are correct with this, roger. ; it is the only workaround other than plunking down for CS4.

Yeah, and I don't think PS7 qualifies for an "upgrade" to CS.

Thanks for the help. ; You guys are right I have to upgrade PS or find A way to make the files TIFF. And nope it dosent qualify for an upgrade. Time to start saving I guess.

or go with lightroom, for half the cs4 cost, it does 95% of what i want, and so far all the upgrades have been free
