I was at the Magic Kingdom yesterday and I hear a few people talking about a first time event of having fireworks over the Seven Seas Lagoon. It turns out we picked the Polynesian and the best viewing position would have been the Contemporary (see the stuff obstructed from view in the lower right- this was going non-stop) but here are a few shots I came up with. Not sure if this is going to be a regular event or not.

D700 & 20/f2.8 - All cropped but the last one.

It looks to me like that obstruction is Sunset Pointe. There is a great view of the lagoon from there, and it is where my wife and I were married.

Great Shots! I think that they did this over July 4th also.

Very Cool Jeff. We heard that this was happening the other night.
The last time they did this, Dina and I were VERY lucky and got to see it too.
About 6 months(?) later, Fantasy in the Sky was replaced by Wishes!
We were told the last time that it was new fireworks vendors displaying their stuff.
We were also told that Michael Eisner was at the Contemporary at the California Grill watching them.
The coolest part is that they were releasing them on the beach/vacant lot across from the Contemporary.

While we were there over new years (maybe the 29th of December) this past year, there were some fireworks over the lagoon. Interestingly, the cast members didn't have an answer as to why, but there were two competing ideas: 1. A wedding. 2. Tests for a new Illuminations (this one came from one of the ferry captains).

    Yes...Illuminations, NOT Wishes!

The 'show' as it were was about 5-10 minutes long, and had a VERY nice ending. A bit too much for a wedding!
