The weekend before Pixelmania, I took a day trip to Gettysburg to meet up with a friend who I hadn't seen in a while. ; Since I was there I went up early enough to catch sunrise and then stayed for sunset. ; Here's a couple of pictures from that trip: General Meade Statue before Sunrise: Poague's Howitzers: Virginia Monument: Hazlett's Battery on Little Round Top:
Awesome shots Michael. ; I still need to get back to Gettysburg on a non-rainy day.....you had gorgeous weather!!!
Dude, I HAVE to get there with the family sometime soon. ; Amazing pics, mike. ; Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Really like these especially the sunrise/sunset pics. ; Have only been there once about 20 years ago. ; Would love to go back especially during the weekend of the reenactment.
Thanks guys! ; Here's two more from sunrise that morning. ; Both are made from 3 shots combined using layer masks In other news, I received a photography permit for the Antietam Memorial Illumination the first Saturday in December. ; Hopefully I can get a few shots that do it justice.
Your skills are there Michael, hopefully the light will be. ; Where on the battlefield is the memorial? ; Antietam, even though it was the bloodiest single day of the war, is a much different battlefield than Gettysburg. ; More urban in the feeling, tight quarters.[nb]Going off memory here, I think it's been almost 20 years since I've been there[/nb]
The Illumination is set up on the North half of the battlefield. ; The cars line up on MD 34 and then drive the loop road backwards from normal traffic flow ending up at the Dunker Church and the visitor center. ; Here's the map: ; http://www.nps.gov/anti/planyourvisit/upload/Luminary.pdf ; The standard permit restricts us to staying near the visitors center. ; I think I can go as far North as the Maryland Monument, and as far West as the Church without an escort which I think you have to arrange in advance. ; I hope to shoot everything in that area this year and then see if I can get permission to shoot from Bloody Lane or even the Bloody Lane observation tower next year.
I truly love these shots Michael! ; I too need to make a trip back there (it has been about 20 years for me). ; I cant wait to see what you get from Antietam!
Ahh thanks Michael. ; Loved the entire series here BTW, forgot to mention that above. ; The last one is very print worthy. I remember the visitor's center and the Burnside Bridge...the latter of course isn't included on the trail.
:-* I love this set and I agree with everyone here and need to make a trip...do I see a Pixelmania Tours America 2012?!
So am I to gather that any shots you get during that trip through are going to be handheld from your car?
Thanks everyone! No. ; I the photography permit I obtained allows me to park at the visitor's center and shoot from within a specified area near the visitor's center.
