So....Dina and I were the only ones on the WHOLE ride. empty boats were stacked up in front of and behind us. When we got off the ride, we figured out why, the halloween party fireworks were going on at the same time. So I used the flash to catch the helmsman because I wanted a styled, kind of harsh shot of him. I used Nik colorefx bleach bypass and film types to get these results. The neat thing about this shot, is its 1.5 seconds long. I had the camera at iso1600 because it was night and had the 18-200 lens on. I had no intention of taking any pictures on the ride. But I have the camera set up for rear flash, so after exposing for 1.5 seconds, the flash froze the helmsman creating a "sharp" picture! Well done! Cheating to get one of those "hard to get" shots (like the HM guy) but you gotta do what you gotta do!
And no guests where harmed in the making of this photo. ; The processing and use of rear flash came together rather well, sir!
i would have gone for it myself, no other guests anywhere to be a bother to, nice job, this is such a hard shot to get, you may hold the title belt awhile on this scene
Awesome capture!!!! ; Very cool treatment too. ; I don't think I'll every try to get a shot of this, unless I get a nice lens for it. ; But well done!!!!
thanks everyone! I was a little nervous posting this since I broke the rules! I need to thank you Scott for pointing out "REAR slow" flash last year. I always loved slow flash, but since you pointed out rear last year, I've used that setting ever since. My camera is always in Rear flash mode, no matter what time of day or shutter speed I am at! not really fair, anybody can get this by breaking the rules. maybe its the Mark McGwire helmsman shot! thanks! thanks everyone!
Nice job. ; And I wouldn't worry about breaking the rules - they're only there to protect other guests and there were no other guests...besides, we all know the pirate code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules. I've broken the rules myself on Spaceship Earth on an early (and empty) ridethrough, flashing on the Wozniak display a while back.
