howie, you are really getting strong bird skills, i think we ought top have a late spring or fall meet in 2011, at forsythe, the art of birds, led by you. enough advance notice, and i'll be there for certain. are there any campgrounds nearby? for the parking of mobile casa gary?
well Thank you Gary. There are 2 camp grounds I know of that are close. One is closer than the other but I think the closer one is kinda low class. I will try and google the other one that is about 20 ; minutes from forsythe
more than I thought that are close http://www.shadypinesrvresort.com/ http://www.hikercentral.com/campgrounds/107804.html
Hey, count me in! ; I'll let my wife hit the casinos while I'm out photographing with you all. ; Might even rent a big lens.
there is the atlantic county park in estell manor. ; nothing fancy but pretty cheap if i remember correctly. ; birdmania, 2k11, hosted by howie. ; hide the women and kids.
First off, awesome shots of the heron! ; Secondly, count me in for Birdmania!! ; That would be a hoot! (pun intended!)
thanks John. yea it would be fun. as far as the lessons Scott is the one for that. The real key is to spend a lot of time there and take as many pics as you can
Yep, I would be sure to make a few trips prior to "Birdmania" to get the lay of the land. ; And for me, any lesson is a good one since my last "formal" lesson came some 17 years ago in college from a prof that was more interested in art than talking any technique. ; I learned very little and spent a lot of time in a darkroom, which is now obsolete for me (and most everyone else)
Thanks for vote of confidence, Howie! ; However, you are the one spending time there so we'll count on you to take us to the birds. ;
ok I will show em. you show the technical parts to shoot em. maybe you can teach me some focusing methods. I have tried 3 d matrix and all I get is focusing points jumping all over. maybe because the d90 only has 11 points ? I use single point and either af-a or af-c a lot of others I have talked to while at forsaythe say they have probs with 3d matrix too so maybe you can give me pointers in that dept
Howie, the 3D Matrix uses color to track, so if you're tracking a blue bird against a green background, it should probably do okay. ; But for most BIF unless they are very dark, it's going to have fits without the 51 point or maybe even the new AF with the D7000. ; I'll probably miss that the most with my switch, but now I have AF that never stops being able to see the subject with the no mirror movement.
thanks Rog. I ahve tried it with a blue sky backround with a dark colored bird and the points just jumped all over so I guess it's single point but tracking BIFs can be fun that way for sure
