Syracuse Hydrofest got cancelled this year due to high water so I had to wait for this new event called HydroBowl. ; HydroBowl was held on Seneca Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, near Geneva, New York. I shot both from a turn boat for the first session and then from the shore after the break. I used the Nikon 80-400VR on my D700. ; Photos are cropped for composition. First they had some vintage boats do a few "fly-bys". This old timer was a multi-year class champion back in the 1970's. You know I did some panning... From shore, I got a straight on view of the front stretch. The races went a bit long due to this being a new event and a couple of single boat wrecks. ; The Sun dropped below some clouds and created some interesting light.
Very nice shots Scott! ; Love the second one with the panning of the background. ; Plus, how can you not love a boat that is sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon! OK, on further review, it is something about a yellow ribbon?
I have always used Photomatix to process HDR sets of images. ; This time I used it to tone map a single image. ; I think it came out rather well. Panned photo at 1/125s, f/22, ISO 200, EV +0.3, 400mm FL. HydroBowl by Scottwdw
There was some great racing action, too. ; These two boats went at it for the entire race and ended in a photo finish. ; The boat on the inside (GNH-74) got the win. Photo Finish by Scottwdw, on Flickr
