Well, looks like high property taxes isn't enough for our New York lawmakers. Starting today, Amazon.com and other Internet retailers must collect sales tax even if they don't have a physical presence in the state. Thank you, New York! At least, this makes B&H and other New York photo stores back on my list to order from. Too bad they charge shipping.
That stinks. I wonder how long until Maryland - the state that never met a tax it didn't LOVE - follows suit. You know, mail-order business has been around for about 150 years, and it's only since the internet replaced physical catalogs that people are talking about collecting taxes from out-of-state mail order sales.
