  1. I had to pass this along. Sonny Eclipse has hit the nail on the head. Please give his blog a read.

I recently had the pleasure of uncovering, what I believe, is one of Walt Disney World’s most entertaining night time spots. That place is Jellyroll’s on the Boardwalk.

I spent the wee hours of the morning there during one night at Mousefest with some friends and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. I had heard it was a fun place to spend and evening and boy, is it ever.

Jellyrolls is a unique concept. Basically, it is known as a dueling piano bar. As you walk in, there is a stage with two pianos and a good size area with tables in front of the stage and then and upper deck area which has some stools and overlooks the floor area. The doors open at 7pm but the fun really begins at 8pm when the piano players take the stage.

The concept is that the crowd requests songs by writing them on a napkin and, accompanied by a tip, they are sent up to the stage for the musicians to play. The better the tip, the more chance you will get played quickly. The great thing is that the piano players have an unbelievable ability to know and play everything. You will hear everything from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s to current hits. You will hear rock, pop, disco, even rap. It is truly amazing to watch.

It is also known as a place where the crowd sings along, and do they ever. I had no idea that the response would be this great to the music that was being played but everyone was singing and laughing and having a good time. I even found myself singing which is a rare occasion (although the alcohol certainly helped me loosen up).

Speaking of alcohol, the bartenders are great and make some excellent specialty drinks. My drink of choice was the "blue drink", which I later found out was a Blue Suede Shoe. It has since become my mission to get the recipe and I have been unsuccessful so far. Drinks are pricey but they are great.

The club is open to 2am, there is a $10 cover and, of course, you must be 21 to enter. I think the only drawback is that smoking was permitted in the bar. I only saw a few people smoking during my visit and it wasn’t enough that it really bothered me.

I am sure that visitors to Walt Disney World that maybe used to go to Pleasure Island will eventually find this place and it’s popularity will increase. I am also sure that once you go there, you will love it and will want to make sure you make time every trip to go there. I know I will be visiting there every trip that I make without the kids.

So, if you have not been to Jellyroll’s, I urge you to take some time on your next trip and check it out. You are missing out on a great time.

If its the same Blue Suede Shoe I know the recipe is:

    ; ; - 1/2 oz Southern Comfort
    ; ; - 1/2 oz Creme de Banana
    ; ; - 1/2 oz Blue Curacao

Try it and let me know if it's the same.

When we stayed at the Boardwalk last March I was surprised at the amount of intoxicated convention folks stumbling around.

  5. Thanks for posting NSM
    ..
I remember the drink had Red Bull and Blue Curacao and Lou thinks it's citrus vodka. Lou is going to ask if he gets there on his upcoming trip.

I'm planning a night a Jelly Rolls in February since the parks close early anyway I'll check while I'm there. Say anyone know how to get from the Boardwalk to Pop Century using Disney transportation late at night? or is a cab my only choice?

  7. I think you're looking at a cab.

    Cab or take the bus to DTD marketplace and transfer onto the bus that goes to the Boardwalk. ; It would probably take you about an hour by bus. ; So you could take a bus there and cab home.....and check out DTD before you transfer. ;

  9. It just under 2 miles from the Boardwalk to Pop. I would cab it from there. Would cost probably less that $5.

Don't go to DTD and cab it from there it will cost you a fortune.
