    Incidentally, I got rented the Canon 85 f/1.2L and Canon 50 f/1.0L from them for the upcoming November trip. ; Quick, painless, great price! ; Check them out!

    50f/1.0L? ; I didn't know that existed, I thought f1.2 was the bottom line! ;

    P.S. When you say Roger, do you mean THE Roger? OUR Roger?

    Lens Rentals is a great place! Fantastic service.

    The 50 f/1.0 was discontinued a few years back with the 50 f1.2 replacing it. If I remember correctly the 1.0 was larger, had more elements and bit of a different bokeh.

    Roger Cicala is a great guy though! ; Been using Lensrentals for a while.

    The 50/1.0 is very hard to manufacture, and I don't think it can be done without comprising Canon's commitment to the environment. ; I'm not sure how well it will work on FF though[nb]corners corners corners[/nb], it was never designed for digital......

    would the corners really matter? ; FF and film are the same size. ;

    Yes, the corners matter, because....

    Film would expose to any light, even light not falling at right angles. ; Digital sensors have to have light going straight at the sensor, to get through the AA filter, then through the microlenses to get to the bayer sensor.

    That's why the older lenses have been updated for the digital age, because the film age used to not notice corner performance like you can know. ; C'mon, how many people also luped their slides in the corner back then? ; Not many.

    The 1.0 had soft corners, if I recall.

    Hey, I'm sure the price of renting it is a heck of a lot better than buying it. ; So, you can be the guinea pig to see how the 5D Mark II performs with it. ; If it does well on Haunted Mansion, maybe you can get some nice snags on those difficult to capture parts of Maelstrom

    You'll be fine then. ; But remember that AF speed, while it's USM, it's first generation. ; And there is a lot of glass to move, like the 85/1.2, so it will be slower to AF than you're probably used to. ; But the 85 has a focus limiter switch which can help....

    Tim, are you planning on doing manual focus with that lens on the difficult scenes in dark rides? ; I obviously have no first hand experience with the 5DmkII on dark rides (I'm sure you do), but from what I've heard, I would think manual focus would be the way to go for the really tough shots (caretaker, all of peter pan, etc.) given the circumstances. ;

    I do Peter Pan, Maelstrom, Dinosaur, and Haunted Mansion entirely in manual focus now.

    I tried that with the Zeiss 50. ; Like the 85/1.2, it has a LOT of movement needed for AF action, and it's hard to keep up because of the amount of lens movement needed. ; Now other lenses aren't as bad.

    That site is awesome. ; Got a question, I would like to take pictures inside dark rides. ; Now, they come out blurry. ; What lens, for a D60, would you recommend trying? ; I've seen a lot of good info about the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX. ; Any advice? ; Thanks.

    Take Roger Cicala's advice.

    "I’ll be honest, if you can find it for sale at list price, just buy it, don’t rent it. Its on my list of “lenses you just must ownâ€Â

    For dark rides, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is going to be a lot better of an option than the Nikon 35 1.8 on a D60. ; It's another lens I would buy, not rent due to both its quality and low price.

    dark rides depend on shutter speed. ; you need to be fast enough with enough aperture/ISO to complete the triangle. ; f/1.8 and f/1.4 are close (about 1/2 to 2/3 stop apart).

    tom- never tried manual focus. ; my camera would be better suited if i had the ee-s focus screen (better manual focus). ; the problem with that is slower lenses (f/2.8 and slower) tends to make the viewfinder a bit darker than the ee-d that i have now. ;
