Well, you USED to Listen to the Land...now they've done it up with different music. But it's still Listen to the Land for me!

Since they put in Soarin'...the Land's boat ride seems to be almost completely forgotten. Which is fine by me, as long as it doesn't close...it means I can hop on the boats with no wait at all.

I realized that I had NO shots from this ride...ever. In all the decades, I have never taken shots on this one. I had my ultra-compact T100 with me this day, and resolved to take a few shots from this forgotten but still fun (and educational...imagine that!) ride.

Here's the fish farm building as we pass through:

A look at the greenhouse walls from inside:

    Mmmm...papayas!:

You gotta love the Mickey-ear shaped fruit! Not quite a hidden Mickey, but a Mickey none-the-less:

It's great to be able to go to Disney so often, yet still find things I've never photographed before. Next time, I might even bring a full-size camera and try for some nice detail shots.

Comments, critique, or questions welcomed as always.

That's a good 'hidden' Mickey, alright. Listen to the Land was one of my first Epcot rides as well...I think I went on it the first day in Epcot, on opening week in 1982. Living Seas and Wonders of Life weren't around yet, Test Track was still World of Motion, Space was still Horizons, Ellen wasn't at Energy yet, Journey Into Imagination was still being built, and The Land had the food court, Kitchen Kabaret, Symbiosis, and Listen to the Land.

I do hope Disney holds onto at least a few of the original attractions...as much as I like the updates and modernization, there is always a nostalgic side of me that wants to revisit the way the parks used to be!

Justin I have a shot of a pumpkin earning it's ears also. I think that it is a little farther along then this one. I'll have to find it and post it.

My shots of this ride turned out boring. I don't know i just need to challenge myself to look with a more artful eye. Good shots, I like the fish farm one.

What's left? Even Living with the Land has changed to be an unmanned boat.

I did NOT like Spaceship Earth Reloaded.

I'm kind of indifferent on SSE. Some of the updates were good but the spiel was pretty boring.

I'm fairly accepting of mild updates and changes, as long as the basic feel of the original is retained. With regards to 'Living with the Land'...OK, they changed the music, a few of the scenes, and the boat isn't manned anymore, but the boats, ride course, and basic idea are still there, so I give it credit for being an original. Same goes for Energy - they changed the movie opening and added Ellen and Bill Nye, but the basic concept is still the same and the ride operates the same way. Even Mexico is basically the same ride, though the storyline has changed the scenery entirely...it's still a peaceful boat ride through Mexican scenery.

SSE for me is still OK. I don't necessarily like some of the changes, and the narration doesn't have it anymore the way the Cronkite did...or even Jeremy Irons who still had an awe-like quality and depth to his voice. But the ride cars, the ride course, and the basic idea are still quite the same, so I still consider it an updated original.

What I miss is when an attraction is entirely changed or replaced - Horizons and World of Motion replaced by Space and Test Track, for example. As much as I enjoy Test Track, I still miss the old ride (loved the motorcycle cop behind the sign)...and I always enjoyed Horizons and the three choices at the end (by land for me!).

Nice Justin. We also love the boat ride. I still love the "listen to the land" song. I took my first photos of the ride too last year.
I miss the actual real person driving the boat. I could not hear the recording at all on our last trip.

It was definately better with the real person.

this is a double edged sword... i do miss the cast member doing the spiel but there was a quality control issue at times when you had a CM who was obviously "mailing it in". the pre-recorded spiel sounds nice but it lacks the personal touch of old.

    Naw....that would never happen!

But the reverse of this are the attractions that they have reined their CMs in to a predetermined script 100% of the time (Jungle Cruise, HM). Nothing was better than Maynard on those. He even made Astro Orbiter exciting.
