Will add photos if the weather cooperates next month. I will be in Epcot on July 16, 2019 which is the night of the Full Moon which rises at 8:28 PM. Anyone have photos of a Full Moon over any Epcot locations? Looking for ideas.

So far, I can line up some of the World Showcase pavilions. The rise happening so close to Illuminations will mean I need to get to a shooting location early.

Or, I could try and line up Spaceship Earth with the moon but it would be high in the sky by then.

We lucked into a moonrise in EPCOT last Pixelmania. I haven't worked on my photos yet but I caught it over Mission Space. We didn't realize that ahead of time. I think it was Dave that noticed it and messaged the group and some of us ran around looking for angles. I would look at TPE and see what angles are available. Without knowing the location, I would think moon over Morocco would be nice it it lines up.

I looked at my photos from last October - I only had one shot at Mission Space where the moon wasn't obscured by clouds. Since I used a 25mm focal length to get the attraction in the frame, the moon was really small.
My recommendation for moon shots is to try for the night before the full moon. In the time right after moonrise, there's enough sunlight to illuminate something interesting in the foreground. Of course you need a relatively clear view of the horizon for that to work.

I've shot a few moons around Epcot - though some of these are 'snapshots' taken handheld and some I composited two frames so I could have the moon and the foreground in focus. Here are a few:

Composite...that's the actual moon that night and where it was, but obviously I couldn't be that zoomed in on the moon and still get the Morocco scenery in the shot:

Full moon over Mexico, shot from across the lake:

    Moon rising in China...again!:

I like the idea of shooting across the lagoon. That allows you to zoom in on the moon and still get a full building or three in the shot.

Exactly - the Mexico moon shot would have been very cool if taken properly, tripod and all, or a composite HDR. Mine unfortunately was a handheld snap taken with a cheap consumer zoom - I was just walking along around UK or Canada when I noticed the moon rising over the pyramid - and had to take a snap of it. I used in-camera HDR with 3 frames, but still needed very high ISO handheld, so it's not a great shot, but gives an idea what a good shot could look like from that angle.

That was my plan, the Moon lines up over various pavilions from the side the UK is on. Thank @zackiedawg for your photos. I though about being in China, too, for the temple idea.

Well, the apps worked perfectly to pinpoint the exact location of Moonrise over China from the location I picked out (right next to the Friendship boat dock on the Canada side). I used the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G VRII Lens on a tripod to pull in the moon. All images shoot at 1/250th of a second at f/11 with ISO's ranging from 4500 to 6400.

Technically, I forget to switch the Nikon D500 camera's Slot 1 to RAW images so I ended up with JPEGs which limited my processing. I will work on these more with better noise reduction software.

  9. Don't forget to turn off your VR when you are tripod mounted.

    I did

VR is always off on this lens as I use it for sports and using VR at 1/4000th of a second is a moot point. LOL

So the point doesn't talk? The PC phrase is "vocally challenged point." Perhaps you mean a "moot point?"

Regardless, excellent work. Glad they came out.

I haven't tried it, but Topaz Labs has a JPEG to Raw conversion product that you can demo for free.

Updated...I want to try better noise reduction first. Interesting how a conversion would restore a RAW images data? Find that hard to believe.

That's why I want to try the free demo rather than spending $100 on something that may not work.
