Moose Peterson posted a neat video on how he removes noise using Nik Define. ; Here's the link: http://www.moosenewsblog.com/2009/04/a-thought-on-noise/
Okay, so the beginning was using NX2.. I don't use that. ; What is this "black point and white point" item which he tweaks? ; Do I have a similar option in other software packages (photoshop/lightroom)?
In photoshop what you want to look for is curves, not sure about lightroom. In aperture it is under the levels adjustment. Jason
The black point and white point in NX2 are used to remove the color cast quickly and easily. ; Like Jason said, in photoshop, you would make adjustments to the curves. ;
In PSP, there is a manual color adjust tool that lets you set black points, white points, and mid-tone grey point to your desire. ; There is also a remove color cast function in the one-touch Color adjustment tool, just above where you select the desired color temperature. (Just thought I'd add the PSP instructions in case there are any PSP users looking for this too!).
Hmm.. so perhaps it's like levels. ; Curves have never been my friend, I find levels easier to deal with. ; I'm sure they're not as powerful, but I just can't think in terms of curves. ; Levels do give you what I suppose you could call a black and white point, and you can adjust each primary color separately. And actually.. although I doubt it's the recommended way to do it, I've used levels to adjust white balance on non RAW pictures.
