My MyBook was almost out of space, and it was time to start relocating masters - think I've got it figured out now! ; My current backup plan is that photos on my HD are fine, I have an Iomega FW drive running TimeMachine, so 2 hard drives would have to fail before my photos are lost. ; So when it's time, I'll relocate the masters to an external HD, and then backup that external HD to DVD. But like I said, my MyBook is almost out of room, and since Fry's had them on sale this weekend, I picked up one of the: Simpletech Pro Duo Quad External HD http://www.simpletech.com/products/stor ... rive-quad/ It has 2 1TB drives in it, USB, FW 400/800, and eSATA interfaces. ; It also comes installed with hardware RAID 0 (default) or RAID 1. ; While their instructions were a little confusing at first, I got the RAID 1 setup and so now I have an empty 1TB external that will handle RAID 1 without any doing on my part. ; The bigger question is if I'm going to continue to back the photos up to DVD. ; I may still do out of paranoia, but I'm doubting both HDs in the system will fail at the same time. ; It has a 3 year warranty, and a red LED will light up on the front if a drive fails.
DVDs are a pain. ; I'm behind on my backups to DVD, but I have my Lightroom library on two separate drives. ; Unfortunately they are in the same room, so I should really get another drive and store it at work.
Very Nice Roger. That is basically what I am looking to purchase along with my Macbook Pro later this year. Thanks for sharing this.
Looks like a great setup. ; Once I have my desktop back (it's in storage due to lack of space at the moment), I am going to start looking at some of these for a networked backup system.
