my own moon shot

A few days ago I was at a location outside Naples, FL where there weren't a lot of lights around. A nice side effect of one of the cold fronts going thru Florida recently was an exceptionally clear night. I used my new tripod and head, remote shutter release, and since the D90 doesn't have a true mirror lock up, I set the camera exposure delay to give a pause between the mirror flip and taking the exposure.

That's amazing detail. All of my shots of the moon look like blobs.

Thanks all. I really wondered how something like a teleconverter could possibly be worth what they are charging. Now I'm glad I spent the money on it. Of course, I thought the same when I bought the 70-200mm f2.8, so I see a pattern emerging here. :)

Brian, I didn't do anything fancy for the exposure. I just set the camera to spot meter from a small central area, set the aperture and ISO manually, and let the camera set the shutter speed. My camera tends to slightly overexpose, so I bumped it down a bit in Photoshop.

Nice shot - great detail, especially for only a 200mm x2. ; Good job!

That came out beautifully! ; I keep trying to get a shot like this but I keep blowing it out completely, no matter what settings I use. ; I am going to have to try this again earlier in the evening when the moon isn't so bright.

Moose Peterson pretty much endorsed the TC 20E III this week. ; I saw they rolled out Discovery. ; One month before liftoff, Erich!

Yeah, in an hour I'm driving over to Port Canaveral to practice on a Delta 4 rocket launch that's scheduled for 6:17 PM today.

Well, the planned daytime launch was delayed long enough that it became a night launch. And I'm glad, because I see how hard this is going to be for the shuttle launch. I'm definitely going to have to do a lot more research on technique before then.
