On April 2, "Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros" will be opening in the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot. This will be replacing the current attraction, "El Rio Del Tiempo". Starring the new attraction will be Donald Duck, Jose Carioca (the parrot), and Panchito (the Mexican charro rooster). All 3 characters are from the 1944 film, "The Three Caballeros". In the new attraction, the are reunited for a performance in Mexico City, and along the way, Donald disappears leaving his 2 friends to search for him. The attraction will not only boast a new film ; but new props, facades, and a new sound system.
Ah-ha! ; THAT would explain why it was closed when we were there... we were kind of disappointed... climbed all the way up to the entrance to the Mexico pavillion... worked our way down and through the crowds in the marketplace... only to find the darn thing boarded up!
April 2nd opening, I wonder what the chances of getting a soft opening Mid March would be? When they mention a new film I wonder if they mean the film clips during the ride or a pre/post ride movie like Norway? Either way the update sounds cool as long as they don't over do it with the characters.
Well... I know with Everest they had it open most days for at least part of the day to regular guests for 4-6 weeks before the official opening. ; Recognizing that Everest had a lot more hype to it, I'd still say your chances are good that they'd open it at least some of the time in the weeks before the official opening. ; After all... someone's got to test it and help them train the ride ops
