I am wondering if anyone can Recommend a good lenses for My Cannon 30D for night time and Fireworks shots..

The brands I was looking at were Optex and Sigma (I might be able to get a good deal on these lenses, which is why I picked them)

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I would think that for fireworks you'd be looking at ND filters more so than lenses.

your 24-105L is perfect for fireworks... ; you don't need a fast lens for fireworks, just time.
you would want a f/2.8 lens if you can swing it to cover night time things without a tripod.

I thought you said last year that I didn't have any good lenses for night time stuff... which is why I am looking for one now. LOL

Could be that you don't have very good lenses for handheld night photography...fireworks and nightscapes are different since you can use slowish lenses with smaller apertures just fine by setting them on a tripod and doing long exposures.

Now, if you want a good lens for wide-open aperture handheld night shooting, I can't say I know anything about the 'Optex' company, but Sigma is a well known and respected third-party lens maker, and I've had very good experience with my Sigma 30mm F1.4, which is a great fast night lens.

you need an nd filter, or 2, get them in 77mm, get step up/down rings for any other thread sizes, go to b&h through the banner and see if you can fund a kit.if not get .6 and 1.2, these will give enough variety to see which you need for a particular show, choice becomes part of distance from the shells and the particular show you are at

You should also look at the Singh-Ray Vari-ND as an alternate to getting multiple individual strengths of ND filters. ; It is an expensive filter, but when you look at the range it covers, its not that bad once you add up the price of individual ND filters needed to cover the same range.

yes mike and i both have that singh-ray vari, it is expensive, but it's multiple stops all in one handy to carry 77mm filter
