I am really surprised by the specs on this one. ; It's priced below the D300s but it seems to be superior in every way.

 

It also has the AF micro adjust, and "manual control" during video. ; And it's priced $100 above the 60D, which is going to be interesting to say the least....

Supposedly this is the new Sony sensor which is in the A55 and A580.

Based on what I'm reading on DP Review (http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikond7000/) it looks like the D7000 would be a replacement for the D300 as well. ; I'm not seeing what the D300 beats this thing on other than focal points (which I don't use since I use center point focusing) and FPS which I rarely use burst shooting

 

Ray, I'm starting to get the inclination that Nikon is going to pull a Sony and move their FX line to be the D300s replacement. ; Sony considers their 24mp A850 to be their current "prosumer" model, but I am starting to think that they will be announcing an A7x and a A7xx at Photokina next week: ; Sony has no cameras between $750 and $2000. ; Nikon now has two, but I don't think the D300s is worth the extra money over the D7000.

Put the D3s sensor on the D700, call it the D700s, price it below $2k, release a new FX sensor around the current price point and then you'll see an upgrade path....

Heck the D7000 is amazing when you compare it to the 7D and the specs on that camera.....

 

It's funny you should say that. ; I just said to Tom Bricker (aka WDWFigment) that I was wondering if Nikon was going to convert the D300 to a prosumer, affordable FX model and let the D7000 fill the spot the current D300 line fills.

That is why I'm waiting and not upgrading. ; I just feel it in my bones that an affordable FX model will be coming real soon. ; If they did that, they have to know we'll all have to buy new lenses

 

I think that's also why the 28-300FX was released.

But I'm loving this competition! ; Keeps everyone on their toes![nb]Except Olympus, they seem to have upset their base by releasing a new expensive upper end model ($1699!) but no new 4/3 lenses.....[/nb]

 

Rob G has a few interesting tidbits:

He mentioned that there will be NO wired remote option for the D7000. ; Instead, you have to use a wireless shutter release but.... there will be a sensor on the back in addition to the front for that purpose....which is why the wireless remotes never really took off in the first place for 'pro' use.

But he claims that Nikon is using phase-detect during movie recording....which I recently heard about - but it is achieved by losing part of the sensor space and then putting the AF sensors there...which doesn't make sense really. ; I'll have to look into that.
