12.2 MP, DiGiC! 3, 3.5 fps, 3" LCD, liveview WITH contrast AF, highlight tone priority Adds f/2.8 cross sensor AF point at the center, 14 bit RAW processing (I guess they're pushing RAW a little more with the Rebel series) SD card only! (SDHC capable) http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08012 ... os450d.asp
I fear the transition to SD card only models.. I'm starting to wonder if it's inevitable, for the past year or so I've been seeing CF prices drifting slightly higher, now SD cards are almost always $5-$10 cheaper for comparable sizes. This is dumb, CF cards seem easier to make faster (with the problems that SDHC cards have had for speed) and the logic has usually been that being slightly bigger they can be cheaper. But now we're losing out in bulk pricing to the smaller cameras.. if the end of CF in sight? Very strange to see a Rebel model with feature set at least partially superior to the current generation XXD. Although I guess they've done that in the past, I'm guessing they're intentionally leapfrogging their model line to get people to not only upgrade from XXD to the next XXD series, but also acquire a Rebel variant in the middle.
i am curious to see what kind of noise issues the new rebel has as it is packing a lot of MP into a smaller sized chip. i found that the xti has slightly more noise than the 20d; that would be due at least partially to packing so many MP onto a small size chip. more MP on a small chip is not necessarily a good thing.
I would have loved to see a dual format Rebel - SD and CF. Don't let storage card format influence a persons camera choice. I agree about the noise concern. That's one reason (among many) I moved to the 5D so quickly.
I doubt it. The D3 has dual CF slots, no more CF & SD. It seems the entry level will be SD, and the others CF.
