The Syracuse Crunch ended up losing their playoff series last Friday night in OT. ; The next night I went to the opening game of the 2012 Can-Am Box Lacrosse season for the Onondaga Redhawks. ; They took revenge on the team which beat them in last year's playoffs, the Rochester Greywolves, by scoring fast and often. ; Final tally: Redhawks 19, Greywolves 4. All photos taken with a Nikon D700/70-200VR combo at 1/500s, f/2.8, ISO 8000, EV +1/+1.3 and cleaned up using Noise Ninja. Onondaga Redhawks Wade Bucktooth (19) scores over the Rochester Greywolves goalie at the Onondaga Nation Arena. Onondaga Redhawks player bulls his way through defenders to score against the Rochester Greywolves at the Onondaga Nation Arena. Rough action in the Can-Am Senior "B" Box Lacrosse game between the Onondaga Redhawks and Rochester Greywolves at the Onondaga Nation Arena.
Very cool shots Scott. ; They sure do have bright colors on their uniforms! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks John and Jeff. ; The Greywolves green is really that bright. ; I shot these at 8,000 ISO. ; May give 10,000 a try next time to see if I can get better exposures which will mean less noise. ; I know the D700 sensor at 12,800 is not as good as on Tim's camera. ; Here's hopping Nikon is true to their word and has not come out with the D700 replacement yet and will come out with a D4 sensor in a D7xx body this year.
Scott, I'd be very surprised if they put the D4 sensor in another camera. If anything, they may put the D3s sensor in the rumored entry level FX. They'd have to have recouped the costs on that sensor by now, so they could put it in a much less expensive camera. That would give them 3 distinctively different FX cameras each with different strengths. Erich... Still waiting on even a rumor of a D300s replacement
I am still holding out hope since they did it with the D3 and D700. The D600 sounds nice. ; The initial rumored specs though sound underwhelming. ; However, could it be the D300s replacement? ; The sensor is rumored to be 24MP. ; Doing some 9th grade math, that could make a DX mode image around 10MP. ; Not quite the 12MP of the D300s but very useable and twice the size of the D700's DX mode image. ; Unfortunately, it will only autofocus using AF-S lenses. ; So my old 80-400mm AF VR lens would be out. ; They better announce a new version of this lens around the time of the D600 launch which won't be until next year.
Nice work Scott! That would certainly be nice, but I'm betting that they won't do that again, or at least they won't do it again with the very latest sensor. ; Creating what is essentially a D3 (minus the dual card slots, 100% viewfinder & buffer upgrades) for half the price must have hurt the D3 sales numbers. ; Personally, I'm waiting for the used price for a D3s to hit the $3,500 range. ;
Thanks, Michael. ; How about a D700s with the D3s sensor? ; The body would still use the MD-10 battery grip with a second memory slot for SDHC cards instead of CF.
If it had an upgraded buffer capable of handling 30+ shots, I'd pre-order it! ; The primary reason I'm looking at the D3s is for the upgraded buffer since I shoot trains in burst mode trying to catch the locomotive with the rods down and have missed second shot opportunities on long runbys because the buffer on the D700 filled up. ; The increased high-ISO performance is a secondary benefit.
I am confused. ; My D300 has a 12 Mp sensor, and raw files are about that big. ; (Actually 9-10 Mb using lossless compression.) ; So how does a 24 Mp sensor not produce a 24 Mb file? I seriously doubt that Nikon will make another body that uses an MB-D10 grip. ; Why let people use old stuff when you can make them buy a new model? And Michael, don't make me say "When we used film, we only got a few shots during a runby and if the rods were down, we thought we were lucky." ;
A few shots during the runby? ; If I tried that with my Minolta X700, I'd be lucky if I got one shot off in focus, which is why I love my dslr. ; Now if I could only step into the wayback machine and shoot some of the legendary locomotives under steam...
