Pileated Woodpecker

    Shot with my D300 with a bad 70-300 non VR lens, hand held. This is a crop from a much larger shot. Oh yeah, the air temp on this fine morning was 7!

    that d300 does have saturated colors. I like it

    Woah, I just realized that you can see airborne debris from the pecking. That's a neat bit of detail.

    if you ever camp at jekyll island campground, southern coast of georgia they tell you to cover your side mirrors when not using your vehicle, as their pileated population has a history of taking out the glass thinking it's a rival that has to be driven away via attack

    That's awesome. I might uncover somebodies mirrors so that I could see this. Okay okay just kidding I'm not for hurting animals.

    One thing I forgot to mention is that I believe the WB was set to about 4000k, not auto. That's why the sky looks so BLUE!

    (it's a great trick to use in the parks too!)
