i can't believe this forum has gone this long with no potc thread,we need to have one so i'll start it off with the davey jones hologram from the start of the ride, very tough to shoot, i think the f1.4 prime i used was the only reason i was able to get any shots in that ride [This attachment has been purged. a couple more from potc, we wants the redhead, we wants the redhead, not an easy attraction to photo imho gary [This attachment has been purged. Older attachments are purged from time to time to conserve disk space. Please feel free to repost your image.]
sigma 30mm f1.4, wide open, iso 1600, 1/15, thanks for the compliment, i wasn't thinking, i should have switched places with karen as i was on the right side of the boat, which is the wrong side for what i feel are the best scenes this is where a wide angle IS prime would be nice, i'd probably cough up the bucks for the 35 f1.4 if it had IS, of course it might be too heavy to carry around, i understand it's already pretty stout here's a couple more, the jack sparrow would have been better with a 50mm, would have been a closer view, gary [This attachment has been purged. My first PoTC pics. Taken during MouseFest. [This attachment has been purged. Older attachments are purged from time to time to conserve disk space. Please feel free to repost your image.]
nice shot of the skeleton, that's one i have to put on the re-do list, i've got one at night, but handheld and not for publication quality, a couple of years ago i would have posted it, but not after the TMIP, night photo tour during mousefest, tim has raised the bar for what i will accept now in my own keepers, after learning the better technique i now have many do-overs on the list gary
Gdad, that's an awesome shot! I wish I can enlarge that pic for my daughter (she's currently into PoC).
Thanks so much. That's the highest resolution I saved of that version. I still have the raw file though- I can do a full size one but it may not look 100% the same (I am horrible at getting the same effect in pp twice. : )
LOL! I can never get it the same twice either. That's why I always do the pp in full resolution just in case I like it. ;D
Gary, What technique might this be? I really admire Tim's POTC shots. Can't tell you how many times I have shot POTC. Few are keepers in my book and that's shooting with good fast glass & high ISO. I think the pyrate with the cats is one the toughest shots in the parks. I note you used f1.4@1/15@1600 and Tim used f1.8@1/25. A bit soft but not bad. So what's the magic tip? Hopefully it's not - go on 4 July when it's super crowded, the boat que backs up, little to no motion, beanbag pod. That's me own best slow dark ride tip. Course one might twist the rules a tad and use a flash now & then. As I recall aren't rules more like guidelines for pyrates?
