Tinker Bell and four new Disney fairies get a home at the Magic Kingdom this week when Walt Disney World opens up its new Pixie Hollow meet-and-greet attraction.

The attraction is set to open Friday in Mickey’s Toontown Fair area, just in time to preview the release, also Friday, of the first Tinker Bell straight-to-DVD movie, based on stories developed for the old Disney character and her four new friends, Iridessa, Rosetta, Silvermist and Fawn.

Until now the four new fairy characters and their story have been known through a new line of books, toys and a Web site, introduced by the Walt Disney Co. over the past couple of years.

Tinker Bell was first introduced to Disney audiences in the 1953 movie Peter Pan. In anticipation of the new line of movies, Disney also is introducing a new line of costumes for young girls.

I have a feeling this will be very crowded for a while. Ariels grotto always has a long line but this is one meet and greet I want to see.

  4. This is very cool! ; I have stood in the Ariel Grotto line - over and over again (DD9 LOVES Ariel - even now). ; Thank goodness for the water play area, or the parents would go stark raving mad with the long wait. ; However, Tinkerbell is one that I wouldn't mind waiting to see - I wonder how they're going to explain a life-sized version to the kids? ; In the movie, she's certainly wee.

The concept is that the audience has been shrunk to the size of a pixie. ; You know, not unlike Body Wars or Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

THis will be very cool, and the DW and DD's are really looking forward to checking it out!

  7. First reports from WDW are that lineups for Pixie Hollow are upwards of 2 hrs. I cannot imagine waiting that long to meet anyone.

On the bright side the Princesses line is almost a walk on now.

lol...love that! ; I'd much rather meet a Princess anyhow.

  9. well, the shrinking the audience thing is a neat idea - I know I had a devil of a time with why DD9 (at the time much younger) asked why she could see Tinkerbell so clearly when she flew thru the sky at the fireworks, because Tinkerbell was so small

As for lines - I've done them before, I'm sure I'll do them again - and why not for something new? ; Seems that despite all the character dining planning, there's always one that didn't appear - and for that trip it's always the ONE that DD wanted an autograph of (despite having oodles of their signatories from another time) - so we queue up, and wait as a last resort. ; However, queuing up for Ariel is an almost given (she sometimes appears at Restaurant Akershus in her ballroom, but not reliably) - DD9 LOVES Ariel. ; Now DD2 is the same about Tinkerbell... so, I'll be queuing up, I'm sure.
