http://www.sigmaphoto.com/news/auto-focusing-issue-affects-limited-number-of-sigma-telezoom-lenses They have a serial number to review for issues with the lenses.
yup, i am right at the bottom end of the serial number range. ; i will send it in when i get back from vacation at the end of the month. ; haven't seen any issues with the lens focusing so far and have used it to shoot 2 weddings since i got it.
Uh oh...new profession Tim? ; Wedding photographer??!! ; Wow, you're a Renaissance Man - cop, webmaster, photography instructor, and wedding photographer.
justin i have been shooting weddings for about 6 years now. ; probably have about 30-40 jobs to my name ;
Never knew that! ; Good on ya. ; I'm lazy...one job is more than enough for me. ; I might make some spare change on photography, but not enough to call it a job...just a paying hobby. ;
RATS! ; I done been struck by the nasty bug... ; time to send the lens back for repair. It stopped focusing and stabilizing over the weekend. ; Bummer. ; BUT- the woman I spoke with was VERY pleasant and nice on the phone (and I didn't have to press 1 first). ; +1 for Sigma's service.
Ouch. ; And doesn't it only have one year warranty compared to the three of the EX ones? ; (i.e. the previous Bigma was an EX) And I hope you don't have to wait in line behind all them Maxxum lenses awaiting repair.
the repair is covered due to the recall and the woman said she could expedite the repair if i needed it to be.... which i do!
That's cool. I deferred getting a replacement to the first Sigma 30/1.4 I got because of their other service advisory ("Which lenses need a fix? ; All. ; Can you fix all lenses you've made in the past? ; No. ; Only those in the last few years."). ; So it looks like no preowned Sigmas for me; maybe next year.
Nice bonus for the marrying couple too - hire a wedding photographer, and if anyone causes any problems, the wedding photographer can bust some punks too.
Would have come in handy here: http://www.themagicinpixels.com/forum/index.php/topic,6950.0.html Props to the other photogs covering the wedding...they didn't stop shooting!
