The first storm of the season is about to hit the Toronto area (insert Mel Lastman joke here). Nothing compared to what folks in Alberta have ;endured so far this year in terms of snow and frigid temperatures. The current from page story on thestar.com ;is Snow on the way to GTA. Also for a chuckle read some of the comments posted by the readers. God help us the snow is coming, we're all going to die. -opinion_guy Dec 8, 2009 2:32 PM One thing when snow hits the Toronto area it is difficult to move 5 million people the GTA, drivers will be surprised by the climatic condition, traffic will crawl and GO Transit trains will be plagued with the usual snow chaos. I will be breaking out my bbq snow meter as in the past year. With the Ham Ham HQ only a couple of km's from Lake Ontario I think we'll be getting more rain than snow. Snow blower is read and tested. Snow tires on both vehicles, windhsheild washer topped up & snow brushes in place although I can't drive until Christmas. Speaking for highland3, folks please drive to conditions and slow down. Re: Snowmagedon we are also headed into our first storm of the season. They keep changing the forecast - at one point I heard up to 30cm...
Re: Snowmagedon Ham... ; amen on the driving advice!!!! Down along the St. Lawrence they are actually expecting much of the precip to be rain... but not up here. ; Everybody be safe and shovel with those legs and arms... not your back. ; Better yet, let a teenager do it!!!! I've got the four wheel drive ready to head to work at 5:30am.
Re: Snowmagedon I hope you have a paper work free day. As Sgt. Esterhaus of Hill Steet Blues reminded us , "And hey, let's be careful out here...."
Geez HamHam, that's nothing! ;We had a good 6-8 inches at least of wet, packing snow which is still on the ground. We never got any rain. The kids made huge snowmen. I kept calling my husband Downtown to complain about the shovelling and he couldn't understand what I was talking about until he came home and saw the snowbank left by the plows! ; We're only in Markham but we seem to get a totally different weather system north of the 401.
We got 20+ cms here in the east. ; Very heavy, wet snow... nasty to shovel!!! It seemed like you had to go back and start again by the time you finished shoveling... ; three rounds of shoveling yesterday in all. Nasty pile of hard, heavy snow at the end of the driveway this morning... but thanks to my neighbour and his trusty snowblower, it was all gone. Worked a double yesterday and off shopping in the big city (okay, Ottawa's not that big). ; Hmmm... I'd almost rather be working!!!!
Being a few km's from Lake Ontario seems to help up in south Mississauga avoiding the occasional heavy snow fall. This morning we had a dusting on the ground with very icy roads.
You folks in eastern Ontario were much harder hit than we were in south Mississauga. More snow here that in the U.K.? I was hoping for some interesting tidbits of highland3's day during the storm.
It was boring for me! I stayed in the office... answered 82 phone calls and did a lot of report writing on the black box on my desk. We did have a head-on crash in front of my office... but thankfully, no injuries. ; The boss sent most of the staff home for the afternoon... but I volunteered to stick around and look after the phones.
Glad you were warm. I always think about how you folks spend a lot of your day on the side of a busy road. What's the black box? Or is it classified?
Not much snow here. Just really cold. I think the Realfam HQ may have had a lot more snow than us folks near the lake. Still in FLA?
