Took in an AHL tilt as the Syracuse Crunch hosted the Rochester Americans last Friday. Since I am using a D70 with the 18-200 VR, I focused (pun intended) on the goal crease. Our old barn, the War Memorial, isn't very well lit so i cranked the ISO up to get faster shutter speeds. 1. Toe Save by the American's Tyler Plante 2. Dan LaCosta of the Crunch looks around Anthony Stewart's (24) screen. 3. LaCosta getting ready to trap a bouncing shot. 4. Plante takes one in the logo and holds it for a faceoff. 5. Doing the splits. Syracuse outplayed Rochester for most of the game after a slow start. LaCosta recorded a shutout with the final score being 3-0.
Good shots. I like watching hockey especially in person. We used to have a sort of semi pro team here in Tallahassee. It was fun because tickets weren't expensive but you still got to see good hockey.
And Rochester is my team's AHL affiliate (Florida Panthers). Anthony Stewart, pulling the screen in your second shot, has been up and down a dozen times with the Panthers this year, filling in for injuries for a few games then getting shipped back to Rochester. Tyler Plante was our second round draft pick - but I don't expect he'll get called up anytime soon as goaltending is pretty secure for Florida. Nice to see my favorite sport here! Good shots.
Yep, Syracuse is Columbus' affiliate. I was lucky enough to catch a game in Columbus once. What a beautiful arena! I just hope Columbus can start getting on a winning track soon. Think the original GM kept reaching for instant wins and didn't build a team. The new one seems more patient as he has not been shuffling players back and forth and letting the young guys learn on the farm, to to speak. Bullalo and Florida share the Rochester affilliation. Rochester has been Buffalo's main affliliate for the last few years with Flordia supplying some talent lately. Is this the first year, Justin? Anyway, Buffalo has pretty much stripped their talent and need a draft or two to restock both Rochester and their NHL squad. I wish I had better equipment, however, it's fun to try and get good shots. I really like the first one and used it on my blog this week.
This is from last night's game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Syracuse Crunch goalie Karl Goehring deflects a shot during second period action. The Crunch won again 3-1. They are close to clinching a playoff spot which has been rare in their history. Lots of post-processing and cropped. My seat wasn't as close to the ice this time.
These are great shots Scott! I actually caught the photography bug back in high school and college taking pictures of sporting events (rugby, soccer and basketball). I even got a picture I took at the ACC Men's Soccer Final Four published in a small newspaper in NC back in the mid-90's.
