I'm practicing my storm photography and wanted to share some of these with you all, hope you enjoy! a few weeks ago And these are from last night
Re: Some Storms that has rolled through the area You are certainly in a good place to practice. ; Stay safe!
Re: Some Storms that has rolled through the area Thanks, yup wide view from our apartment and a covered balcony so I can go out and watch when the storms are in the distance.
Re: Some Storms that has rolled through the area Thanks! Yeah i have tons of blanks lol, kinda a hit and miss type thing.
Are you trying long exposures? ; I have heard that this is the way to get really good lightning shots. ; These are nice. ; Something I can't wait to play around with once I get back with my family in Florida.
Nice job - lightning's tough to catch. ; I find long exposures are best - but of course that's hard during day or dusk - sometimes just good timing and moderately slow shutters can get you lucky. ; I'm jealous of the wide-open view - I live in the lightning capital of the country, and it's so flat here, and I'm in a single story house, with trees absolutely surrounding me like a rainforest...I just don't have any views to the skies or horizons from my house. ; Plenty of lightning by me, but no chance to photograph it! ; My one and only lightning capture, and I had to get lucky with a short 1/5 shutter speed and catch it through a small gap in trees in my backyard. ; I tried a few dozen times, but this was the only time it fell right in the gap: Ideally, a dark night, smaller aperture, and long 20 to 30 second shutter with a nice wide view to the horizon would be best for catching lightning action.
Thanks to both of you! I used to live in Central VA, one story house tons of trees around and couldn't get any night shots what so ever but since moving to MO we have rolling hills and open land around Eureka so I'm lucky and love it a lot. What a great picture by the way!! Very cool with all the other (lighting fingers) I call it lol. I'm not to familiar with my camera but the first time I was able to go out while it was storming I played around with it and got a really long exposure but didn't have my tripod so it was blurry and tons of light from all the lights we have here. I messed with it more and got it to have a really quick shot and that's how I caught the first picture with the color and everything. Last night I had it on a sunset setting and it went fairly good, just not as quick as I would have liked it to be. Soon after I came in and watched out my bedroom window for a bit the lighting had gotten so bold and really long it went from one side of the sky to the other! Wish I would have taken some pictures of them since they were going so often. Thanks for the tips.
