I am into SF, or Sci-Fi, movies. ; One of my favorites is the original Planet of the Apes with Charleston Heston. The planet had a forbidden zone which held the key to the movie's mystery. Here are some possible stills from the movie. The astronauts coming onto shore after escaping their sinking spacecraft (ignore the fact this is not a raft, okay? ; Work with me people!). Here's Taylor looking up at the barren land. The sky is more welcoming than the land they find themselves in. Okay...where am I?[nb]Disclaimer: Since this is not Disney I placed this thread here. ; Feel free to move this topic if you feel it belongs in the other board.[/nb] ; Here's a couple of clues. It's not in a Disney park nor was I on a movie set.
Re: The Forbidden Zone (a game of Where Am I) ;D Oh...that's a good one! ; Okay...here's a big hint to get you all in the ball park. ; I can drive to this place from my home near Syracuse, NY. ; It would be considered a day trip. ;
Re: The Forbidden Zone (a game of Where Am I) Then Lake Powell is out of it too. Lake Ontario. ; I'll guess up towards the Canadian border.
Re: The Forbidden Zone (a game of Where Am I) You are correct, sir! ; How'd you find it? Here's some more photos. ; They were taken during the mid-day so not the best light. ; It is less than an hour's drive from my front door so I will be back when I can stay later for better light.
maps.google.com I know you live in Syracuse so I assumed it was near you. ; So I started with the larger lakes then noticed the Great Lakes. When you ruled out Canada I started zooming in then noticed "Chimney Bluffs State Park". ; Then thought "duh". ; Looked at the zoom, googled the park and voila.
Interesting, Roger. ; I tried to stay away from mentioning key words like "bluffs" as I would have used Google but not maps to search. ; Neat way to zero in on a target. ; I am constantly amazed at what is near me. ; For anyone who feels they have to travel hundreds of miles to find prime photography locations, I suggest you research what can be found within a two hour driving radius of where you live. I think you will be amazed, too.
I posted an article on my blog called Showing Scale featuring photos I have shared here. ; Wordpress.com choose to spotlight it on their Freshly Pressed page (their version of flickr's Explore) today. ; Nice to be noticed.
