Here are two examples of the incredible Dave Hill Effect on the Haunted Mansion... the "effect" is usually used for portraits, but it seemed applicable to the Haunted Mansion as it creates a gothic look. What says you?

    RETOUCHED:

I can notice a dramatic impact that has on those pictures but as I told you on the phone last night, I couldn't see the appeal when it was applied to Billy's picture. Those pictures above almost have an HDR affect

I can see what Ray is saying; I like the effect on these pics, but...

the drop shadow is ruining it for me. On one of them the tone of the shadow is almost the same as in the picture so to my eye and my work monitor it makes the photo seem lopsided.

I really like the effect here. It looks like these are some pictures you found in your attic!

I like the ToT one. I'm not really wild about the HM ones. Cool effect, though!

now the car barn is the better of the two in my opinion, and tim i like the 3rd of the hm best, this kind of down and gritty as they call it is pretty interesting to me, i'll be back here within a couple of days, i have some fresh snow with contrast from the farm that might work, i've been toying with a stark black and white photo essay from the snows of the past week, farms that are asleep for the winter can provide some really moody material to get a starting point

Tim, I really like the 3rd Haunted Mansion. The other two are pretty good too, but like Roger and Ray said, the drop shadow works against you on those two.

Paul, the car barn looks great

The TOT and the car barn are the best...I think...not sure I'm totally crazy about this effect, but in a specific application it might work well.

It is amazing what an impact that effect has on the trees in the Haunted Mansion pictures. Thanks for sharing!
