Howie, is that Osprey nest closer to the road than the ones I saw with you and Tim back in 2008? ; BTW, are those killer bugs out yet? <shudder>

Nice of Justin to let them come up here for the summer. ; Might go looking for some over the weekend.

nice shots howie, and i see those ospreys have a major rebuild to do, sometimes around here the nest will survive the storms and they can just do a cleanup and move right in

thanks Gary. looking forward to the chicks in about 6 to 8 weeks and now that the stands are alot closer I can get better shots and not have to crop like crazy

Howie, I was able to photograph a pair of Ospreys soaring today at the Montezuma NWR. ; This is the best of the lot. ; Heavily cropped but not bad at this size.

did they build stands for them to nest there ? ; I get alot of shots when they are landing and taking off from the stands and also bringing back fish and also the chicks in the nests

They only have one stand but it is not close enough for my equipment. ; There are other nests on top of power towers. ; Those are too high as the ospreys are barely visible.

Now that I know about them, I would definitely wear heavy, thick clothing and a mosquito hat. ; Might be uncomfortable and goofy looking but I did that when I stayed in the Adirondacks during black fly season. ; You get used to and not giving a blood donation is a good thing. ; :)

We used Old Woodsman in the Adirondacks. Yep, it smelled just like you'd think...PU! ; :p ; But you could not argue with the results. ; Took a few showers to get rid of the stink after returning home.

Great shots Guys! ; Howie, I might have to go out with you one of these days and try my hand at catching some of these shots myself.

don't wait too long Jeff. as Scott and Tim will attest too the bugs in July and August are brutal. Also you need some tele reach as these birds do not let you get close. This is my favorite osprey pic taken with the tamron 200-500 (300-750)with sensor crop at full zoom.

you can easily lose a pint of blood and you don't even get the $20 you would get on pacific ave....
