    Al is reporting that TDA is still crunching the numbers for a Halloween time conversion back to Captain EO at the HISTA Theatre. ; That actually may work well, and keep the park at capacity for that period.

    And it might draw me out there, so hey, I'd be able to see the other Jack in his home!

    Interesting, I wonder when they will make a final decision. Halloween is fast approaching.

  3. There was a rumor that MJ/EO fans were going to hold a protest and vigil at DL to demand EO come back a few Saturdays ago and NOTHING happened.

    I don't hold my breath for Al Putz or Keven Yee "rumors"

    Lutz seems to have a really solid track record. ; Yee, on the other hand, seems to mostly regurgitate what he reads on other online forums. ;

  5. He always tells us how reliable he is. A self proclaimed watchdog.

    I'm not wild about his ego, either. ; Nor do I like the condescension towards WDW. ; However, I still think he has some reliable sources and he seems to be accurate quite often.

    I've heard a rumor from a reliable source that he gets his info directory from Disney, but that info made be deliberate leaks of false information just to see how the masses will react. ; Corporations do that sometimes (ahem apple) to keep the eyes diverted elsewhere.

    There are rumors that Disney uses some people in the community as mouthpieces to say things that would not be best said officially. ; But not all that info is accurate and it's deliberately so. ; If every rumor turned out to be true, it would be a bit obvious wouldn't it. ; Just like if you had all the answers for a test, you'd get a couple deliberately wrong just to not make it look like you cheated

    Some of those rumors that didn't come true, well, sometimes popular support/anger can turn the tide.

    I know a few years back the Empire[nb]Paul Pressler was hand picked by Eisner to run Disneyland and thereby Eisner basicaly had his hand all over DCA's poor planning, I'm sorry, the aggressive store planning over adding Disney features to off-the shelf rides, like Screamin'. ; Soarin was the best thing that came from DCA out of the gate. ; Also, who builds a theatre without bathrooms?[/nb] was planning on pulling Fantasmic! completely to save money, it got posted, angry complaints at City Hall turned the tide and the show wasn't pulled.

    Night Kingdom, well, was real. ; But isn't going to happen. ; Conditions change. ; Rock It Mountain was supposed to be permanent...WDI put the LEDs in the sign when it got the full rebuild. ; Well, Rock It Mountain didn't last long, but the sign remains.

    The Third Gate in California is another one....it won't materialize anytime soon. ; DCA has to repay the treasury first. ; But there was a plan to build a third park before DCA even succeeded. ; (The water park idea, to match Knott's water park)

    I have wpndered about that regarding a couple of people who don't seem to report much bad about Disney (didn't say a word about the monorail crash). ; And have had debates with a couple of friends about how it 'harms objective reporting of Disney'. ;

    My ultimate conclusion was that I don't care at all about objective reporting (I don't see Disney as a serious news topic), so long as it gets us the scope and some interviews with individuals so-called objective reporters can't secure. ; It's a theme park, I can pretty easily form my own objective conclusions...

    8/28: MiceAge reporting that at D23 Disney will announce that EO is returning...

    In January.

  12. I know Al is still saying January. I know for a fact that Iger and execs where shown EO in the HISTA Theater last Friday and it is now back to HISTA. Plans are to keep as is. No EO.

    You spew enough things and eventually you get something right. I take Al as 50/50. As far as Disney using people like as to spread rumors and see what sticks. Its possible. Plausible even. I am sure he certainly has inside sources as does Jim Hill. I think sometime the same kind of people who feed them crap is the same type that feed Koening crap. You hear enough of this stuff and some of it may actually be true.

    The issue I have with Pultz & Yee is their forums and some of the people there. Many are not rooted in reality. Even when facts are irrefutable, they can be rude and obnoxious while not grasping that their view is totally wrong. ;

    I don't hang out in the forums. ; I think he has sources, and he's actually backtracked a bit - Iger still isn't convinced, but did you see the future plans for the theatre? (according to the rumor)

    I wouldn't call a 50/50 track record the result of spewing enough and seeing what sticks. ; Not unless you're really good at guessing. ; Like him and his site or not, Lutz has a very good track record (even at 50%...I wouldn't put any other site that high) with these rumors.

    I see bashing of Lutz all over the place, and I understand it to a degree, but I wish people could just compartmentalize their distaste for Lutz and his substantive content. ; It seems that all too often people illogically discredit his content because they don't like his personality, site, or writing style. ; Well, his content, rumors, even at only 50% accuracy, is far better than anyone else online.

    I think some of his "50/50" belief comes from things getting out, causing a ruckus, and then end up not happening because of the ruckus.

    A while back, I know that TDA was seriously considering shelving Fantasmic! ; (if I remember correctly it would have been at the same time DCA was opening, and DCA had their own nighttime lagoon show that didn't last long). ; Of course, word got out, and complaints came in, and the plans were reversed....

    While some leaks may be intentional deception from Disney, I can't remember the last one. ; Jim Hill said in August there was no way EO was coming back. ; Yet, Rasulo and Iger, and Michael's kids (I believe that one!) got to see it in the theatre, which was changed back to HISTA after Jim mentioned it. ; The way I read Al's posts on the EO thing is that *multiple* sources have told him that they had already made plans to schedule a conversion; it's just that someone not at TDA has Iger's ear. ; I guess we'll see if HISTA closes after next summer (assuming EO doesn't come afterall) to convert to the Laugh Floor if that additional rumor is true.

    I'm trying to remember any other rumors which didn't come true. ; Subs into Atlantis Expedition was a real plan, but I know who leaked it, and why, and it got shelved because the movie didn't do as well as expected (not to mention the cost). ; The Imagineer who did that I believe was punished.

    The IASW rumors ended up being true, although Disney has never officially admitted one of the major reasons they had to rehab it.

    After the accident almost 11 years ago the Columbia almost didn't return: ; you have to look at who was running the parks at the time, and things like that cost money to fix and they didn't want to spend money to fix the parks. ; It was evident during that time frame with routine maintenance deferred, faded or badly chipped paint.... ; Heck shortly thereafter Roger Rabbit had its' accident, and if I remember correctly Al had the rumor that it wasn't going to return. ; It did, after 12/14 months[nb]It was a really long time, I may have the time line wrong. ; But that was also during the time that Toontown opened really late each day and closed for the evening at fireworks time, even if the park was open to midnight....[/nb] - to install netting on each car. ; Does that seem like a long time for such as simple fix?

    Little other things, like having more kid play areas in the park[nb]Referring to another thread[/nb]: ; Toontown used to NOT have a kids play area[nb]But wasn't there one behind the treehouse, it was never open between 98 and 06[/nb]: until Matt Ouimet (maybe Rasulo, can't remember)'s wife took the kids to Toontown and there was no place to play - to burn off steam. ; So while the park survived that long without one, it only took a matter of weeks to be installed after that "incident".

    So while some things seem strange to be added, or look like there would be NO need, Disney is in the business of making money and making their customers happy. ; If the customers want something[nb]Within reason. ; When they complained about the lack of thrill rides at DAK, what happened?[/nb], it will happen.[nb]More than likely. If the POTC movies had been a bomb, do you think that Jack Sparrow would have been added to the ride?[/nb]

    I'm not talking about the fanboys[nb]As a gender neutral term[/nb] wanting things like a coaster at the Festival of Fools theater area, or the long rumored (and probably gone) coaster in Fantasyland at MK....but things the general public wants to see. ; A part of me doesn't like the fact that Disney has added rides that the whole family can't enjoy. ; But I'm not angry about it - it's just the reality that we live in right now that a large portion of certain key demographics want the intense thrill rides. ; So we get things like Mission:Space over a hanging pseudo-omnimover attraction.

    I've heard from many sources that Lutz is believed to be tapped by the Disney corporation to be one of many people that get fed information from inside the company. ; These people may be given real information for the purpose of gauging public interest (which is what is suspected with the Fantasyland blueprints), other times they are given false information to throw people off the trail of what is really happening.

    The key thing, I've been told is that of these media moles you never know who is getting fact and who is getting fiction.

    I think the major problem with Lutz and Jim Hill is the manner they deliver the information and the demagogue-like attitudes they portray is really off-putting. ; Especially, by those people who are trying to forge positive relationships with the company. ; For those people, they strive to not associate with people in the community that have a reputation of being overly critical of the company.

  17. The problems with rumors is that many of them have some basis in fact. WDI also floats a lot of ideas as do the parks themselves. Plus, Castmembers love to start rumors, especially in the digital age, and watch them as they grow on the internet.

    My distaste for Lutz is more about style and the Lutz Fan Boys I have encountered on his site. Both he and Jim Hill enjoy a certain amount of inside information either by official contacts or just plain leaks. If you were an Imagineer and you wanted to leak something would you go to one of those guys or WTTM, The DPN, WDW Radio or Magic in Pixels? Like it or not they have a certain amount of credibility in the Disney Fan Community. I have found a lot of good information on his site.,but there just does not seem to be any reality check with him sometimes. I am not sure what he does for a living other than bag on the execs at Disney, but running a business is not always as simple as the fans would like it to be.

    When I was at the parks I used to visit WDI a lot. I saw a lot of designs and concepts that were "ready to go" that never made it to the park. Most certainly most of them were not canceled because of leaks of the likes of Hill or Lutz. The idea is to keep going until you get great ideas. Disney has shown they don't always hit the mark, but you cannot build everything you think of.

    I would be very happy to see HISTA go away. It's way past its prime if it ever had one. I am not real impressed by MILF, but it's something new and different out here so maybe that's a good thing. Personally I would love to see live entrainment with the Space Stage again, but Disney seems to be getting away from that. At least they do not approach it like they used to.

    ToonTown at DL used to have a lot of "burn the steam off" areas. Most were shut down or changed for operational and safety reasons. They treehouse ball pit area was closed off and on all day as kids peed, pooped and vomited in it all day. Goofy's Bounce House is a shadow of it's former self and even Donald's Boast has had "things" removed.

    The rumors mills that start after accidents are usually the most repugnant of all rumors and in my opinion hold the least amount of credibility. With every accident Disney, Tragic Mountain, Six Flags, Universal, or what ever operator has the accident has a period of reflection on it's operation and whether or not an attraction flawed or they are dealing with a freak accident. 9 times out of ten, at least at Disney, based on my 10 years there, closure is not a serious concern to me. Roger Rabbit open six months later. Not that long considering here n CA you get a anal exam from DOSH, CALOSHA etc. Plus Disney is genuinely concerned about safety. RRCS ran for 6 years with no accidents. Parents were not totally handling their child and you have an accident. ; Disney tries to anticipate problems but cannot get every possible scenario covered.

    Most accidents at Disney are ACCIDENTS and people being careless or STUPID!

    I cannot think of the last time I've actually endured HISTA. ; It may be about the same time that I've actually sat through the film in the Norway Pavilion

  19. You gotta do Norway now and then. Trapped on Vacation suggested "watching" it with your eyes closed. Funny stuff! Try it.

    I run on a level of fatigue like none other at WDW...I'm afraid that if I close my eyes during the Norway movie, I'll be entertaining the room with my melodious snoring. ; I've already done that at the France Pavilion, Carousel of Progress, Philharmagic, Hall of Presidents, and Muppets...haha
