(Originally made for Facebook, I thought I'd post it here too) Field Journal Entry #1: It was so nice to sleep in this morning (10am), although I think I am still running on CST. Hopefully I can adjust quickly. The nice thing is that I usually use my first day as a breather to slowly adjust myself into the hectic-ness that calls itself DisneyWorld. So today is all about relaxing, heading to Disney Springs to get my Annual Pass and do a little window shopping. Now, let's see if I can blend into the tourist population and continue my field studies.
Field Journal Entry #2: I slowly made my way out into the world, trying to blend in with the local tourist population. I think it might have worked as complete strangers started talking back and forth about their day while on the bus to a tourist preserve called Epcot. After debarking transportation I made my way to a small building out front where I was able to upgrade my current identification bracelet for one that gives me nearly unlimited access to the four local preserves for the next year. It even includes photo documentation of excursions within the preserve taken by the staff. Once inside I made a quick loop around the lagoon (I wasn't planning on staying long anyway), grabbed a bit of sustenance and the headed back to my resort. Tomorrow I plan on seeing the local marketplace and study their economic system involving currency for trade.
Field Journal Entry #3: Upon waking I have realized that acclimation to the local unit of time might be harder than I first thought. However, this time I blame it on a late night of studying worldwide culture via video transmissions and the lack of timepieces in my current residence. To that I pledge to lay to rest at a time earlier than before and to set multiple alarms to wake in the morn shortly after the sun rises. Tonight I decided to partake in the local cuisine and found sustenance through an eatery that has provided such on previous travels, a place called Flipper's Pizzeria. To my amazement it looks as if this will provide me with multiple meals. Tomorrow, provided the time of my waking, I plan to spend the morning and early afternoon studying the holiday traditions of 11 world cultures. Photo documentation will follow. My daily dose of caffeine... Hoping to find Timmies in Canada tomorrow. The "Ohh So Good" Flipper's Pizza...
The artist who designed our Mulch logo did this on Facebook when babysitting his nieces. Thought it might be fun to try.
Field Journal Entry#4: While I did not wake as early as I would have liked, I am already being transported to a nearby tourist preserve (yesterday I was barely up by now). Soon I will join the herd and its migration pattern as we circumnavigate the preserve's main water source. Wish me luck until my next entry. Field Journal Entry #5: Once again I find myself at the local preserve named Epcot. Today I plan to study how the different cultures use music to calm the spirits of the stressed out Tourist. My first stop was a place another tourist called "Canadia". I suspect he may have mispronounced the name. Since I arrived about fifteen minutes before the artists arrived I decided to go to the trading post and obtain a morning necessity by the name of "Timmies". Back at the stage a band of musicians called the Holiday Voyageurs entertained the mass of tourists with the sounds of Christmas. It should be noted in this entry that half of the musicians were those formerly known as Mulch. I continued to navigate my way around the lagoon stopping occasionally to take in the sights. My next study brought me to Japan and a set of very large drums. The rhythm of the drumming was mesmerizing. Three small women with drumsticks the size of baseball bats. Note to self... Run the other way if you meet them in a dark alley. My final destination brought me to the intersection of Space, Speed and Energy. As it came to pass, a crew of Janitors took their tools of their trade and showed us that music is everywhere. Who would have ever thought that cleaning buckets and trash cans could make such a wonderful sound. Now, back to my domicile for preparation for a long day tomorrow. "Fiddle me this, Batman!" "Who's a big girl? Soooo big!" "Rat-a-tat-tat on his hat hat hat..."
Field Journal Entry #6: Today's study is focused on the dietary requirements of a species of tourist called the Photographer (Fo-Tog-Grah-Fur). It seems the species I will be joining is actually a subspecies of the class "PixelManiac". I've been told that they make a yearly migration to the preserves sometime between October and December (it seems to alternate each year). The area we are meeting at first is a place called Whispering Canyon. I have been to this place on previous trips and it is everything but quiet. I've also noted on previous occasions that they consistently are out of a condiment called Ketchup, but I'm not sure why. If all goes well we will retire to a local drinking hole called the River Roost where a local musician tickles the ivories. More on that in my next entry.
Field Journal Entry #7: As I suspected, the group of Wild PixelManiacs descended upon their food like lions on a downed wildebeest. It started with a nice display of various meats and ended with a lot of empty plates.
Field Journal Entry #8: After finishing their evening meal at the Canyon, half the group left to document the spectacle known as the Osborne Lights. The other half departed for a drinking hole known as the River Roost. The Roost is located Riverside at the Port Orleans. This is a lively place that is kept unchecked by one called YeHaa Bob. At times Bob seems a bit vain as he is constantly asking the tourists if his hair is okay (note hair in picture below). Other than that, the Roost becomes a place of merriment and wonder. As a matter of fact, it seems as if all the tourists are neighbors. When new tourists wandered in, Bob would ask where they were from and then if anyone in the crowd was from there as well. Everyone was from everywhere. My evening capped off at one of the breaks in the action. At that time we were able to meet Bob and film a small tribute to a PixelManiac that was unable to attend this year. "Five Golden Rings..."
