As I pulled into my Apartment Complex after work tonight I saw this going on in the parking lot. ; I quickly ran into my apartment and grabbed the camera. ; As you can see, he started in the Parking lot,[attachimg=1] but as I came closer he moved to a berm behind the parking lot. ; [attachimg=2][attachimg=3][attachimg=4]I think by the end of it all he was getting a little mad at me for watching him eat dinner (just look at the expression in the last photo).

He needs to work on his table manners. ; :D ; What the heck was he feasting on?

He's made quite a mess - what a sloppy eater! ; :) ; I've actually had a similar experience, and also not the greatest shots since I did just what you did and ran for my camera when I saw the hawk start chasing blue jays across the street. ; Not much time to set up for a shot - basically, just point and fire! ; Here's my sequence, taking a blue jay in flight:

    Slamming him down:

Then flying off with the spoils:

I didn't get to see the eating process like you did - happily, I'm thinking as it would be a little more gory, not to mention quite a mess judging by yours!

Very cool scene to witness and shoot - and great example of why it's always good to have a camera in easy reach!

It was dark enough that I was initially thinking starling, but with all the light colored feathers, a better guess would be pigeon. ; I was trying to get a decent shot of him tearing the meat off the bones, but he was pulling so hard that his head is a complete blur with every pull. ; Would have been cool to see him take the bird down like Justin's photos.
