got lucky today and found a merlin sitting in a tree pretty close my best shot of one to date d7100 and 600F4
Fantastic shot. I wish I could get that close to one - I've only ever seen/shot merlins 4 times - and all 4 times were at distances of 100+ feet, with 500mm lenses, into the sun, and significantly cropped. Just can't seem to get one to land close to me, and with the sun in the right direction! (kestrels I've had more luck with).
