first pics - Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS

handheld, ~250-350mm, f/8, ISO 400, straight outta the camera (jpg), no retouch except for resizing.
so far, this thing looks SHARP!

    Good to hear.

Got the 80-400VR rental today. Kind of reminds me why I prefer S drive or HSM. Looking forward to taking the new 500 Sigma for a test drive. Whenever it comes out.

Roger, if you have any questions about the 80-400VR, PM me. It's a bit temperamental but a good lens once you get used to it.

    looks good Tim.

Roger, here's a few thoughts I have on the nikon 80-400.
-it does focus slow, but it does it consistently.
-use the focus limiter switch, it really helps it grab focus quicker.
-do not lock the A & M switch. leave it unlocked. This allows you to quickly unlock the focus limiter grab the focus ring and move it to the right end. then quickly put it back in af at the right end.
you can usually do it by feel by not locking that switch.
I love the lens, it will work great with the focus system on your d300.
