    I have found with Photomatix, you really need to make sure the two extreme images have histograms which do not touch the far side. ; I also use 5 bracketed photos one stop apart for best results. (+2,+1,0,-1,-2) ; Since Nikon D700s do 5 bracketed shots in 1 stop intervals, ; I'm good to go.

    Can you elaborate on this? ; Do you mean the darkest bracketed image can't clip any bright highlights and the brightest image can't have any totally dark areas? ; If so this may explain a lot- even in the France image which I just posted as the fountain was blown out even in the darkest frame. ;

    That is correct. ; Not to say that is a rule but I find I get the best results out of Photomatix that way. ; If the auto-bracketing sequence doesn't get me there, I'll do manual bracketing. ; The hardest part is the sky. ; I sure do see the benefit of a layer editor to drop in more natural looking skys. ;

    Man, I can not compete with that one, Gary. ; I bet you didn't even have to saturate those colors one bit.

    just a little tweak in lightroom, i've been making quite a few presets, each just a little more impact than the last, and saving them, most of the time i kind of know where to start, then work my way up and down the scales from there, this was just my usual clarity50,vibrance25,saturation10,autowb. i usually add in an auto lens profile correction, but i'm still working them up for the lumix lenses, there's a whole tutorial plug in from lightroom on how to do this, i just have to find the time to play with it. most of the canon and nikon and pentax lens profiles are already in lightroom 3.4

    Jeff, I read this today and thought you'd be interested. ; The author goes into more detail in how to correctly capture a scene's dynamic range for HDR processing.
