This coming weekend I plan to spend most of my spare time at Gen Con, a huge gaming convention in downtown Indianapolis. How big is it? It takes over the entire Indianapolis Convention Center as well as three surrounding hotels and much of our old Union Station. Fortunately for a non-gamer like me, there's lots of other stuff to do and see, such as this stylish camel in a British sports car that I spotted last year while on my way to an event in Union Station. Why walk a mile?
Spent a wonderful day at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. While you can't photograph anything inside the main house, there is tons to photograph outside--including the house itself. The gardens were drawing MANY insects. This swallowtail was one who was not afraid of the camera: Eastern Tiger Swallowtail by rickenmartin78, on Flickr
Dave Kilment invited me to a great location to photograph the Rochester International Airshow which featured the US Air Force Thunderbirds F16 flight demonstration team. Here they are taking off. Click the photo to see more from the show. Thunderbirds Take Off by Scottwdw
Oh, you are going to have a good time, Erich. Make sure you follow them if you are able and you might see something like this after a pass. Pulling Gees by Scottwdw
Back to the Thunderbirds today. I believe this could be classified as a money shot. Thunderbirds 5 and 6 by Scottwdw
Thanks, Dennis. Look, John, a WWII bomber! The B-25J “Panchito,” named after the feisty rooster from Disney’s animated musical The Three Caballeros, was a bomber with the 396th Bomb Squadron, 41st Bomb Group, 7th Air Force, stationed in the Central Pacific Panchito by Scottwdw
He is a beautiful aircraft. The Rochester show did not have a lot of aircraft. They did have a good variety including this Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17F fighter jet. Hello, Comrade! And the only privately owned F/A 2 Sea Harrier jump jet.
Wow! Cool to see some of those early fighter jets I bet! No jets at WWII Weekend, although it would be nice to see a Me262!
Nice shots all! You're really getting me excited for the Cleveland show. Blue Angels now then the Thunderbirds at a show in October. Scott, you may want to check your white balance on those last shots. Erich
Time to get away from the planes... Centerpiece of a Düsenberg... Another Dusey... The Mach 5... A foreign "beach" car...
