I had no problem with the 300 in the parks. The security checks were fun though, as the guards just smiled in disbelief and said nice gear. I did have several CM's come up to me in AK to ask about my gear during the parades. Most were genuinely interested, photo enthusiasts and all friendly. However, I could tell a few were trying to find out if I was a pro and I believe that Disney likes to have pro photogs escorted around. ; The CM's in the parades will definitely see you, play for the camera, and joke with you as well. I can think of a few tips... Practice using the lens before you go in the parks, especially if you have never used large lenses like the 300 f/2.8. Find a good spot in the parks that will allow you to utilize the reach of the lens without intruding on other guest's personal space. Be prepared for gawkers and lots of curious questions. Find a backpack that is comfortable, easy to pack and stow quickly. If you need to, use a sturdy monopod for support. Because of the lens reach and limited working space, the parade floats will have you fighting to get decent shots of the CM's immediately behind them, before the next float comes along. Most importantly have fun, be patient and enjoy the results!
Yup, great F-22 shot. I'm sure you've probably already seen this, but lately I've been drooling over the plane images at FredMiranda in the Mustang air to air thread. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/600984 A huge read, but it also has some great advice on shutter speed, panning, long lens technique, etc. Erich
agreed that jet shot is awesome! thanks for the good tips on a lens like that in WDW. it is amazing how common it is now to see that compared to Roger 10 years ago.
This 300 f2.8 lens is crazy heavy, but it's worth it. I'm definitely going to have to try it out in the parks. From Sun-n-Fun on Saturday. Erich
Excellent shot, Erich. Sadly, none of the big jet teams will be at the Indianapolis Air Show this June, but that won't stop me from attending.
Thanks all. I actually had one of the shorter reach lenses compared to those around me. Next to me was a Sigma 80(?)-500mm, and behind me was a 200-400mm on a big Gitzo with a Wimberly(sp?) gimbal head.

I still haven't taken this lens to Disney, but I did go to another airshow, this time a remote control airplane show. Erich
Thanks. There were some amazing scale aircraft there. I've barely started processing the photos, but I have the beginnings of a gallery at http://gallery.mac.com/erichlinder#100167 Erich
Say hello to the Jesus Christ lizard...so named because he can walk on water. ; Proper name: Brown basilisk. ; One of many invasive species here in South Florida - originally from South America. ; Taken with Tamron 200-500mm lens at 420mm on a 1.5x crop body:
Telephoto is great for nature shots too. ; Makes for some silky bokeh in gorgeous colors. ; This one was taken with the 55-250 at f/8.
