Yes, small hotshoe mounted flashes are speedlights. The SB-600 & SB-800 all talk remotely with each other, so bring yours along. If it's a SB-600 check the manual to see how to put it in slave mode. I only know how to do that on the SB-800. Although it's possible the menu is the same for both. Oh, and bring your tripod too.
It is a 600, I have the manual with it. I am pretty sure that I have "slaved" it once to use off the camera, like 2 years ago. Tripod is also in the pile to come now.
I'm working a half day on Friday, and it looks like it's a ten hour drive (just like going to Syracuse). If nothing goes horribly wrong, I should get there late Friday evening. I'll try to remember to bring along my flash and batteries. (If you followed my tweets from this past weekend's trip to WDW, you know how good my memory is.) I'll also bring my Cowboy Studio wireless transmitter/receiver sets, if we want to try multiple flash stuff in a situation that can't use Nikon's line-of-sight optical controls. What's the word on renting a lens? I am still considering renting a D500, so adding a lens to the order won't be a problem.
Update: I was not able to rent a D500 from LensRentals, so I rented one from BorrowLenses. (Bring an SD card if you want to try it.) Unfortunately, BorrowLenses did not have a 200-500 available, so we'll have to go back to LensRentals for that. Due to my schedule, I'd have to rent it from June 2-7 (Thursday-Tuesday, six days). If one of you can get it delivered (and sign for it) on Friday and ship it back on Monday, that would reduce the cost by a whopping $13. Let me know what you want to do.
@ddindy it's looking like I will not be able to make it so don't rely on splitting the cost with me. Not sure if the other guys are interested in the lens or not. Have fun with the D500. Sounds like all the new owners are very impressed with it.
@jbwolffiv I'm not out for sure yet! Just want @ddindy to know that I may not make it and that he may be on his own with the rental. Dennis, I looked at the lensrentals web site for both the D500 and the 200-500 and was able to put it all in the cart for the 2nd - 7th. Not sure if something has changed since you tried. If you can go with one source it will likely save on shipping.
@ExploringWDW That's both good and bad news. Hope things work out and you can join us. And things have indeed changed at LensRentals. Yesterday it was telling me I'd have to pick the camera up if I wanted it on June 2. Now I can reserve it starting June 1, which will give me an evening to program and play with it.

@ExploringWDW hope you can make it. We should also check with @Tim to see if he's interested. Billy & Ryan might enjoy the airshow.

Just saw this on the news and wondered if it was the air show you all were going to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It wasn't the airshow we are going to, but that plane is usually at Reading. MAAM WWII Weekend is next week. I was looking forward to trying some night shots with it since it is usually parked in an interesting location. Here's a shot from last year:
@ExploringWDW Bummer! I guess I'll have that D500 and 200-500 all to myself. (Just kidding, I plan to share them.)
